History of Schützenverein 1954 Reinheim e.V.
On the 9th of October 1954 twenty-five persons
interested in the shooting sport assembled in the inn "Zur
alten Post" in Reinheim and founded the shooting sports club
"Schützenverein 1954 Reinheim e.V." Thirteen of the
persons present at that time joined the organization immediately.
They elected Ludwig Held as their 1st chairman. Until the completion of the air rifle stands in
the aforementioned inn which became the home of the club, the
shooting training took place in the courtyard of the house of the
club member Seibold in the Heinrichstraße.
Actually this foundation was a re-foundation. A
document, which is in the hands of the club since a short time
proves that a "Privileged Shooting Club Reinheim" was
founded 1863 already. Unfortunately, until now it could not be
determined by the club yet how long this Reinheimer shooting
club existed. Investigations are still made, however.

The newly founded club took part in friendship fights
at first and 1955/1956 participated for the first time in real
competitions with other teams. Because of the fast increasing number of
members and consequently in the increased training requirement the
available locations were not sufficient. The organization changed
therefore already in fall 1957 the inn of the club and moved into a new
pub, the inn called "Zum Schützenhof" where better training
facilities where available, and of course the name here was fitting a lot
better.
Since the interest in the small caliber shooting was
growing in between as well, the members of the club decided to build an
own club home with fitting training possibilities.
|
The city of Reinheim
made a suitable area available for the club free of charge in a place
called "Schaubach", below the "Windlücke". The start
of the construction was done at the 11th of October 1959. The clubhouse
was build only with the help of the club members, and was equipped with
four 50 m small caliber-shooting ranges. The inauguration took place at
September 1st, 1962. The number the member continued to increase fast and
several teams soon took part in the disciplines of air rifle, air pistol
and small caliber gun at the annual competitions.

The clubhouse was extended by six 25m of sports pistol
ranges in 1965 to offer interested members the necessary training
possibilities also in this discipline. At that time, they discussed
already the possibility to transfer the air powered weapon stands into the
clubhouse. This failed, however, due to the missing power and water
connections, the missing sanitary installation and the terrible access
way. Under these conditions it seemed unreasonable to carry out air
powered rifle competitions, which almost exclusively took place in the
evenings in this clubhouse.
The club had to change once more the pub of the club in
the fall 1969. For approx. five years the air rifle and air gun training
took place in the inn "Volkshaus" now. After this the offer of
the inn "Zur Spitze" was accepted gratefully to use the old
unused stables for the shooting exercise. The old stables were renovated
and made ready by the club from 1973 until summer 1974. Unfortunately the
lease was not continued any more in 1988, so the further development of
the clubhouse was under discussion once more because all efforts to find
another suitable place failed. In the meeting of the members the extensive
project was finally decided on.
The clubhouse was extended by 14 meters again almost
exclusively done with the help of the members from April 1988 till
November 1989. A generous room with eight air pressure shooting ranges is
available now which can be used also for social purposes as well. The
clubhouse was provided with power and water supply, with modern toilet
installations and a heating was installed. The town of Reinheim
constructed the access road as well, an asphalt road now, which can be
safely used in every weather condition.
The considerable financial resources used for the
construction and extensions have been really worth the effort for the club,
viewing it from today's view. Apart from the good training possibilities,
which are now available in the clubhouse, the complete area experienced a
considerable value increase and the club is now able to organize much
larger events as well without problems.
For instance the local club shooting event, where many
other clubs are invited, We call
this the "Ortsvereinsschießen", and it has become a regular
event for many local clubs. Our club believes that this event contributes
at lot to demonstrate the shooting sport to the local people close by and
eventually make them interested.
A three-day muzzle-loading shooting event is organized.
This event as well has become very popular
with all muzzle-loading shooting enthusiasts.
